Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the Mastercard Foundation Youth Opportunity Hub , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions.

Known limitations for Mastercard Foundation Youth Opportunity Hub:

  • Images of Text: Wherever possible we avoid using images that contain embedded text. That is because the text within the image is not readable by a screen reader, nor can it be resized for low vision users using screen magnifiers. Where practical we use an actual text instead of an image of text.
  • Images that include missing or inaccurate alt text: We are currently auditing and updating the alt text descriptions for all images on this website. Alt text is an alternative to visual content for users who are blind or have low vision. We work to have descriptive and accurate alt text that describes the content and purpose of each image.
  • Inconsistent heading structure: We are striving for logical usage of headings through the website and use them consistently so that this would facilitate good navigation for a screen reader user. Headings should show the rank in priority like H1, H2, H3, etc. as this maintains an organized outline structure.
  • Uncoded Lists:We strive to do better with the correct HTML list elements when formatting lists on our site. This ensures that screen readers can recognize a list item or items and relay that properly to the user.
  • Decorative Images Not Properly Defined: We are reviewing decorative images to ensure they are appropriately marked in the code so that screen readers can ignore them. This keeps screen readers from announcing redundant or irrelevant information to users.
  • Low Contrast: We are testing the color contrast between text and backgrounds on our website to ensure there is a sufficiently high level of contrast for people with low vision. We're updating to meet or surpass the contrast ratios recommended by the WCAG.
  • Map Controls-Accessibility: Our website is continuously improving, ensuring that people can better access controls of maps. This will make sure that people who rely on a keyboard and use Assistive Technology will also have access to all map functionalities.
