About the Program

The One Acre Fund and Mastercard Foundation have a four-year partnership (March 2023 to March 2027) through a program dubbed Reshaping Kenyan Agriculture for Dignified Youth Livelihoods. The program seeks to provide comprehensive support to young people to shift their mindsets towards agriculture, increase agricultural productivity, and access appropriate finance and profitable and guaranteed local and export markets. This is designed to increase income and improve lives for young people, their families, and their communities.

It provides training in high‑value crop opportunities (macadamia and avocado,), access to finance, and market linkages to boost farm productivity and incomes. The program also supports micro‑entrepreneurship and integrates with One Acre Fund’s Tupande model to expand reach through retail and digital platforms. Young people gain employment opportunities through micro-entrepreneurship roles such as tractor operation, equipment leasing, and booking services, supported by partnerships with organizations like Hello Tractor and KickStart International.

The program targets 300,000 YiW (70% of them being young women) by equipping the youth with skills, inputs, and market access to transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture

Who Qualifies?

The program is open to young women and men (aged 18-35 years) with a passion for agriculture and success.

Location

Program is being implemented across six regions in Kenya: Nyanza, Rift, Coast, Central, Eastern and western

One Acre Fund is a non-profit social enterprise founded in 2006 that supports smallholder farmers across Africa. Its mission is to reduce poverty and hunger by making smallholder farmers more productive and profitable. It envisions a future in which every farm family has the knowledge and means to achieve big harvests, support healthy families, and cultivate rich soil. The organization provides a holistic package of services, including farm inputs (seeds, fertilizer), financing, training, and market access needed by farmers in Africa to grow out of hunger and build lasting pathways to prosperity and community resilience.
